We’ve talked about praying for our families, our communities and our churches.  So let’s go bigger!  There is a lot happening in our world.  No matter which country you live in, there are difficult, scary and challenging things going on.  When we think about praying for our country, you may think only about praying for the people who live in your country.  And you should!  But the bible directly encourages us to pray for those in a position of leadership in our country.

I Timothy 2:1-2 – I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people—  for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.

Depending on the individuals who are leading your country, this can be something that comes easily and naturally.  Or it could be a difficult and humbling experience.  You may not agree with them or you may love them.  They may be of a different political party.  No matter who the individuals are who are leading your country or how you feel about them, you can pray that God would intervene in their lives.  You can pray that they would make the right choices for your country.  Pray that God would put the right people around them.  If you feel that changes need to happen, pray for them!

And pray for God to bless this land! Pray that we would follow 1 Chron. 7:14, which says, “If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”
Isn’t it interesting to note that God is not saying, if all the sinners in this nation will repent?  Nope. His word says, “If MY people, who are called by MY name:”. Wow.  He is talking to us, believers. He is saying if we will humble ourselves and pray, and seek His face and turn from our wicked ways, then HE will hear from heaven and He promises to forgive our sins and heal our land.  Good stuff! Let’s get on it and pray and ask for God’s mercy for our nation!
