PRAYING WITH OTHERS

One of the things we consistently hear is “I don’t really like to pray out loud or with other people. So why should I do it anyways?”  There are so many benefits from praying with others. Here are just a few:

IT GROWS YOUR PRAYER LIFE
First, it’s a fantastic way to grow your own prayer life, especially when you pray with people who let Scripture lead their prayers. You learn to see the Scriptures in a new way. You pray God’s own words back to Him. Praying with others can spur us on to changing our prayers for the better as well. When we hear a sister who consistently thanks God for every circumstance, we tend to thank God more too. If we join with someone who is praising God all the time, we learn to praise more. I’ve heard it said that we are being consistently shaped in prayer when we join together with other believers.  It grows us! And it grows others too.

BUILDS UNITY
There is no better way to build deep, authentic friendships and to get to know others than by praying together! When you pray with someone, you can hear their heart in a way that is hard to access at any other time. It takes you to a deeper level quickly and it builds amazing unity in a team.

THERE IS ADDED POWER IN OUR PRAYERS
Matthew 18:19 talks about when two or more gather together in prayer and that God will give us what we ask when we join together with other believers. God tells us that our prayers are multiplied when we pray together! And as iron sharpens iron, we build on our prayers when we join together with others.

GROWS OUR FAITH
I’ve read dozens of books on prayer that talk about learning more about God by spending time with others in prayer. God may have revealed different facets of who He is to others and when we pray together, God reveals more and more of Himself to us!  Plus, when we pray together with other sincere believers, it is as though our love multiplies as well. It is delightful to pray with a group of women whose hearts are tuned to God, and the love overflows. It is so exciting to see God answer prayers as well and to rejoice with others who have prayed the same prayers! God overwhelms us!
